QUESTIONIs it correct that there has never been a memorial to the 641 Britons killed on the Sandakan Death Marches in Borneo (Mail)? I was stationed in Keningau in 1957, and I'm sure there was one there.

THE Kundasang War Memorial in Sabah, Borneo, in Malaysia, is dedicated to the 2,428 Australians and Britons killed on the Sandakan Death Marches in 1945. Most of them had been captured after the surrender of Singapore in February 1942 and taken by the Japanese to Sandakan PoW camp.

Flowers for the Fallen

The PoWs were used as a labour force to build a military airstrip in Sandakan, but in late 1944, as the Allies advanced in the Pacific, the airstrip was bombed and destroyed.
