FOLLOWING Tony Benn's one-man show (well received), Alastair Campbell's (not so good) and Iain Duncan Smith's (under subscribed), independent MP George Galloway is embarking on a speaking tour modestly promoted as The Mother of All One-Man Shows. His first outing will be at the Customs House in salubrious South Shields, on June 23. At Pounds 12.50 a ticket, Mr Galloway will discuss 'the real me' and talk about his enemies, who include 'Rupert Murdoch, Tony Blair and Conrad Black'. Perhaps the Millennium Dome will be necessary by the time 'Gorgeous George' gets into his stride.
COMMONS Speaker Michael 'Gorbals Mick' Martin ( pictured) has issued a new edict. Unhappy with being stared at by disrespectful reporters, he has told Commons staff to feel the collar of any journalist who leans over the edge of the upstairs press gallery to take a better look at MPs and, of course, at the Speaker himself. What does Mr Martin look like from the press gallery perch? My source says: 'Usually he presents two watery eyes, a purpled proboscis and an expression of glazed, balmy bafflement.'
