A POLICE station is spending hundreds of pounds a week on takeaways for prisoners, it emerged last night.

Taxpayers are already paying up to 20,000 a week to house convicts in overflow cells at Halesworth police station in Suffolk, as a result of the prisons overcrowding crisis.
