DAY ONE

ON THE first day, I dress with more care than usual. The first rule of successful blagging is: look and sound like you can afford the products you are 'testing'.

So this week I'll drape myself in satins, silks and furs and wear every piece of jewellery I own. My first chore is to get free gym membership. I ring Club Kensington on Kensington High Street. 'I'm thinking of joining your club,' I say, in my poshest accent. 'Might I sample your facilities?' They immediately offer me a three-day trial, including a free personal training session and a free physiotherapy session.
