Beside him sat Eric Clapton, still a novice on the music scene but already hailed as a guitar prodigy, whom Baker had just seen on stage for the first time.

Awestruck by what he had heard, Ginger had offered Clapton a lift home.

During the journey, he voiced the idea that they should work together.

Clapton in turn suggested that rock's virtuoso bassist, Jack Bruce, should come on board. So it was that the world's first supergroup was formed.
