Summary
WE HAVE a German friend, Horst Knoll, who lives in Bonn. At 19, he was captured and sent to a PoW camp in Berkshire. Now in his 80s, he still remembers the years in England as 'the happiest time of his life'. He recalls that far from despising him, the public made every effort to make life bearable.
During internment, Horst was bussed from his camp to the farm run by my grandparents. He was hardworking, likeable and trustworthy, and they became very fond of him.
