Summary

LAURA ROBSON failed to match her previous Grand Slam success as she crashed out in the second round of the girls' singles. The Junior Wimbledon champion, 15, was top seed for the event - after becoming world No 1 earlier this year - but she could not live up to her billing as she lost 7-6 (12-10), 1-6, 6-3 to Sandra Zaniewska. Robson, who reached the final of the Australian Open in January but has admitted to struggling on the slower clay, saved match points at 5-2 but could not do the same on Zaniewska's serve as the Pole sealed her third-round spot. The English girl, who needed to come from a set down to beat Karina Pimkina the previous day, went an early break down but fought back and broke Zaniewska in the seventh game.

There were no further breaks and the set was settled by a titanic tie-break, which Robson eventually lost 12-10. The Wimbledon teenager had two set points but could not take them, double- faulting on one.
