Summary
Since 2002 I have seen a greater degree of ripeness and fruit quality in English wines. You can even buy pretty useful reds these days - something I must admit I didn't think would happen at all, let alone so quickly.
The one dark cloud hanging over the UK wine trade is courtesy of our beloved Chancellor - we have to pay the same duty rate per bottle to the Government as we do for wines made outside our shores. This equates to a good Pounds 2-Pounds 3 per bottle (including VAT). Mr Brown: give our small businesses a break and remove this penalty. I know that everyone would be delighted to raise a glass of English wine to this change of legislation.
