And we could see why. The old colonial mansion, and most famous of Havana's paladares (restaurants in Cuban homes) appeared in the Oscar-nominated film Fresa Y Chocolate (Strawberry and Chocolate) in 1995 and is now on most tourists' hit lists.

Clambering out of the taxi, we were ushered through the ornately- carved wooden doors and into a dimly lit hallway.
