Sir Alex Ferguson has been given the go-ahead by the Glazer family to pursue another superstar but it is looking increasingly unlikely that he will land Bayern's Ribery. United are also keen on Wigan's Ecuador winger Antonio Valencia, and last night appeared close to clinching a deal.
