THE official news agency of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Association is not in the habit of squandering as much as a square inch on as trivial a capitalist pursuit as the Six Nations. Well, there is a first time for everything and yesterday they broke the habit of a lifetime.

One of Vietnam's leading newspapers, the Ho Chi Minh City-based Thanh Nien Daily, duly acknowledged the meteoric rise of Francois Trinh-Duc as France's new fly half. The 21-year-old from Montpellier makes his debut at Murrayfield on Sunday more than half a century after his paternal grandfather left Saigon driven by a desire to provide a better life for his descendants.
