MY 30-YEAR-OLD son has lived with me since my wife walked out and we divorced ten years ago. He has a responsible job that he loves and is very good at. However, he seems totally incapable of dealing with life outside work. He is on prescription drugs for depression and chronic insomnia, but still drinks to excess, both to get to sleep and to blot out his anxieties. His GP was convinced the drugs would work, but that was 12 months ago.
