QUESTION In the Merchant Navy in World War II, I recall seeing ships with catapults to launch an aircraft to look for U-boats. How did the crews of these aircraft survive? Do any of these planes still exist?

FOLLOWING the early success of the Hawker Hurricane, in RAF service during the Battle of Britain, the Royal Navy wanted to use it to protect Atlantic convoys from the Luftwaffe's FW-200 Condor, operating far outside the range of landbased aircraft to lead U- boats towards Merchant Navy ships.
