Summary
WHEN the Iron Curtain and Berlin Wall came down, my pub companions thought the world was safer. I pointed out Communism had made the Soviet bloc poor and uncompetitive, so there was no conflict over resources. But, I added, being rid of the burden of Soviet communism would in, say, 50 years make Russia richer and and bring about real cause for conflict.
