IT might look like a small piece of paradise, overlooking a tranquil bay in Loch Ness. But for 14 years the plot of land now up for sale as an ideal Highland hideaway was in the grasp of the self- styled Laird of Boleskine and Abertarff, more commonly known as Aleister Crowley, the 'most wicked man in the world'.

His estate near Foyers, Inverness-shire, witnessed scenes of untold depravity, debauchery and suicide that made his name a legend among the locals who feared him. The evil practitioner of 'Sex Magick', who turned up for cult meetings in full Highland dress with a dagger at his side and a sinister black mask obscuring all but the magnetic power of his dark, glittering eyes, had an uncanny ability to bend a string of impressionable women to his will.
