Summary
CELTIC hauled their title challenge back on track after an evening of unbelievable drama at Parkhead last night when Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink claimed his first goal against Rangers with an injury-time strike to give Gordon Strachan's men their 2-1 victory.
The Dutchman headed home from close range against 10- man Rangers but the final whistle sparked a mass bout of pushing and shoving between the warring teams. Referee Kenny Clark is understood to have issued retrospective red cards to David Weir and Gary Caldwell in the dressing room, for violent conduct, with Carlos Cuellar earlier sent off for keeping a netbound Shunsuke Nakamura shot out with his hand. Nakamura had fired Celtic into a first-half lead with an amazing long-range effort, before substitute Nacho Novo equalised for Rangers early in the second half. Cuellar's sending off gave Celtic hope but, for a long time, it looked as if they wouldn't be able to break down Rangers. But Vennegoor of Hesselink rose to answer Strachan's prayers -- and possibly save his manager's job. The gap between the teams is now down to one point and, although Rangers have games in hand, Celtic can go top of the league with a win this weekend.See the full content of this document
