POOR old Steve McClaren. Even JJB Sports is putting the boot in after a string of lacklustre results. The chain is worried it could lose up to Pounds 10m in profits if the England football team with McClaren at the helm fails to reach the Euro 2008 finals.

Boss Tom Knight sells lorryloads of replica kit when England is taking part in a big tournament. He said: 'We wish them every success, but if they fail to qualify that would be very damaging.' Strong sales of football shirts on the back of last year's World Cup helped JJB (up 5p to 265p) to post a 14pc rise in annual pretax profits to Pounds 38.5m.
