AMERICAN sprint legend Michael Johnson - a severe critic of Britain's athletes - has been approached by national performance director Dave Collins about taking up a role with UK Athletics.

Johnson, world record holder at 200 and 400metres and winner of five Olympic gold medals, has used his position as a BBC commentator to criticise British performances at major events. Most recently, at the Commonwealth Games, he questioned whether the team's sprinters were still hungry for success.
