I AM not quite sure whether a summons to appear before a Football Association disciplinary hearing amounts to a kangaroo court.

But I would certainly like to be present next week when Simon Jordan, chairman of Crystal Palace, flanked by lawyers, is marched in to face accusations that some of his recent comments about the way the football industry conducts itself were not only an outrage but actually treacherous.

Though this will not be possible, I trust someone will invoke the Freedom of Information Act to press for the release of a full transcript of the proceedings.

Since most of it will leak out anyway, I have a passing thought that could save the Football Association inevitable embarrassment.

Instead of hauling him over the carpet, why don't they bring out a few bottles of champagne and welcome him into the inner ...
