DERRY CITY are under huge pressure to beat Latvian side Skonto Riga in the Europa League tonight as the sense of financial crisis gripping the club continues to mount. The voluntary liquidation of the club's major sponsor, Meteor, followed by the withdrawal of a second-tier sponsorship, has set alarm bells ringing on Foyleside and increased the need to qualify for the potentially moneyspinning third preliminary round. 'We need to win the game [5.45pm Irish time] for quite a few reasons and while Skonto will be favourites, we feel we have a chance and we'll be doing all in our power to keep the match alive for the second leg at the Brandywell next Thursday.' On a positive note, Derry received a major boost yesterday when keeper Ger Doherty (pictured left) was passed fit to play having sustained a hand injury.
