THE BBC's radio Children's Hour, by now passing itself off under the self-consciously 'with it' title Go4it, is to be axed -- the last children's show to be aired on mainstream radio, the Beeb having discovered that its listeners' average age was over 50.

I was an eager part of Children's Hour's audience from the age of ten when we acquired our first, accumulatordriven wireless set. Children's Hour was by far my favourite programme, despite its short- changing tendency not to be an hour at all, but often as little as 45 minutes.
