HOW absolutely extraordinary it is that 'police bashing' has taken over the nation. I understand the police make mistakes. Who doesn't? In the heat of being vilified and attacked, police officers sometimes over-react. Who wouldn't? But where would we be without them? There would be chaos, anarchy, disaster. The frenetic mobs that taunt and attack the police under the name of protest and freedom of speech would devour us all.

How many officers were defending property and citizens in the City at the G20 riots earlier this month? Four thousand or so. How many may have stepped over the line under intense pressure and aggravation? Two or three.
