IN 1997, Seb Coe was voted out of his Cornish constituency and replaced by a Blair babe in Camborne. In last Thursday's council elections to our new unitary authority, Labour did not secure any seats at all throughout the Duchy and were in fact fourth behind Mebyon Kernow, the Cornish Nationalist Party.

UKIP and the BNP remain alien to Cornish politics. How can a major national party such as Labour become extinct in a region such as Cornwall and still pretend to be the national Government?
