JUSTICE Minister Brian Lenihan has brushed aside concerns from civil liberties groups over the introduction of the countrys first national DNA database to help fight crime.

The radical measure came a step closer to reality yesterday when the minister sanctioned a major increase in staff numbers at the State Forensic Science Laboratory in preparation for the radical new system.
