THE GAA has waded into the Budget controversy, sending a letter to the Minister for Education warning that proposed changes to teaching cover could 'negatively impact' on second level competitions.

One of the less highlighted measures announced last week by the Minister for Finance Brian Lenihan will see substitute teaching cover withdrawn for all uncertified sick leave from January, with school principals furious about the measure and warning that there will not be sufficient substitute cover if several teachers are ill.
