WITHIN an hour of discovering the itchy rash all over Portia's legs and back we were ushered into the surgery by a concerned practice nurse, who calmed my four-year-old's fears with gentle reassurances and hugs.

After a full medical and a review of her history, it was decided the angry red lumps were eczema, easily treated by antibiotics which would be given to me at reception.
