THREE more fatalities, 17 people hospitalised, 14 of those in intensive care and 7,000 new cases a week. Predictions that we were facing a swine flu pandemic are rapidly turning into reality. And yet, while the vaccination programme for atrisk groups and for health workers in the North started on Wednesday, we must wait until Monday week.
Even then, there is no guarantee that the roll-out will begin on time. Negotiations between the HSE and the Irish Medical Organisation continue to crawl along - and some doctors are still refusing to administer the jab. But what is most scandalous of all is that the vaccine itself has been in the country for a full week now.
