Mcginn: Sale Sign Puts Buddies' Displays in Shop Window [Scot Region]

Summary

ST MIRREN'S depressing record at their new stadium has long been a source of irritation for management, players and supporters alike. Since moving the short distance from Love Street in January, they have drawn five and lost the other four of their league fixtures there. The visit of St Johnstone today presents the home side with a 10th attempt to rectify that. And the fact the club's directors this week announced they are prepared to sell the majority shareholding to a wealthy investor has added to the urgency for Gus MacPherson's side to finally deliver the goods in front of their own supporters. As in-form midfielder Stephen McGinn points out, there has never been a better time for the Buddies to show exactly what they are capable of.

'It would be great if someone came in with money to invest on the playing side,' said the 20-year-old. 'That's really something for the fans to look forward to, though, as players, we can't afford to take our eye off the ball. 'The directors at the club have done well for us with the sale of Love Street, which paid for building the new place and our new training ground, too. That's their legacy and they'll be remembered for that forever. 'Now that the club is open to offers it gives us another reason to go out there and really put a show on, because there could be prospective buyers sitting in the stand and that might sway them.' Saints enjoyed notable Homecoming Scottish Cup victories over Motherwell and Celtic earlier this year, so McGinn is well aware that the longer their poor league results continue, the harder it will become to put right. 'We know that, if we're going to do anything in this league, then we need to be winning our home games,' he said.
