THE Lewis Hamilton phenomenon takes some stopping but it happened yesterday when he caught his kart on a plastic barrier no higher than his knees.

The Formula One world championship leader suffered the prang on a makeshift track at a promotional event in London's Brunswick Square. 'Oops,' said the 22-year-old McLaren driver sheepishly. 'It's a bit tight on this track. It's bent on the back.' A damaged rear axle was the diagnosis, which was bad news for the Irishman who bought the kart with a 42,100 donation to children's charity Tommy's.
