JOHN TOSHACK is refusing to talk about England. Not one word. Not even after the Wales national team sponsors, Nationwide, promised that the manager would discuss a fixture which can be described as his most important this year.

'Nobody told me about that,' said Toshack. 'And I'm not talking about the game today.' The word is that Toshack does not want to rile England. The word is accurate, but engage the Wales manager in conversation for long enough, ask enough questions about the state of the British game, and he cannot help himself.
