'It is only a little one, just five miles across.' This year - we are dealing in Earth years - the BBC's astronomy programme The Sky At Night is 50 years old. Sunday saw the 650th broadcast - the 649th presented by Sir Patrick. (He has only missed one - when he was poisoned by a rogue goose egg - and was disgusted that the programme was relegated to the graveyard slot of 1.55am.) To mark the occasion, I have taken the pilgrimage to his fairytale cottage Farthings, in Sussex, to hear stories of the stars. There is a sign by the doorbell....
