Summary
SITTING on the London to South Wales train one evening, I read the review of George Osborne's conference speech pointing out that it's harder to cut spending than to promise to cut it. Not two hours earlier, I'd seen a nervous little man at Amsterdam's Schiphol Airport, surreptitiously asking the officials where the nearest ladies' toilet was on behalf of his companion.
