SHIA Muslim parties were officially declared the runaway winners of Iraq's election yesterday, raising fears that the country could be heading for an Iranianstyle government of mullahs.

Shia-dominated parties won nearly 48 per cent of 8.5million ballots cast, way ahead of parties representing secular Iraqis and the Sunni Muslim minority.
