Not only is late summer a key stage in the breeding cycle for many garden pests, but also the dry weather will be taking its toll. Look for plants that wilt suddenly, despite watering.This is usually a sign of vine weevil.The larvae will be eating the roots and can be treated with a biological agent called Heterorhabditis megidis, a parasitic nematode that attacks the larvae.

Remove leaf litter from pots and re-pot damaged plants in clean compost.
