NOT an honourable list for us to join: Zimbabwe, Russia, China, Cuba, Turkey, Egypt, Burma, Ethiopia - piquant, that one, I'll come back to it in a minute - Iran, Tunisia, and Ireland. But there we are, tucked up with the sort of countries that imprison journalists for writing opinions which fail to match the orthodoxy of the ruling caste.

Shaming stuff. But most shaming of all is that the journalists in this country, at least the ones who are not at the moment facing prison for what they write, don't seem to care. What is it with them, hubris, arrogance, or intellectual laziness? Maybe all three.
