IRISH men's No 1 Conor Niland is gunning to get his career back on track after crashing out in the qualifiers for the Wimbledon Championships. The Limerick man is down to play in an ATP Challenger Tour event, on clay, near Bologna, where he will be hoping to collect sufficient ranking points to make substantial improvement on his current ladder position of 266. 'It was disappointing to go out in the first round at Wimbledon, but I've still got a lot to play for this year,' said Niland, 27, who was edged 6-3, 1-6, 8-6 by Britain's Daniel Cox.

Niland headed into his Wimbledon match with a decided edge in the world rankings, Cox being placed at 627. But the 18-yearold from Lincolnshire possessed a psychological advantage, as he had a previous win over the Limerick man to his credit, coming through 6- 0, 7-5 in a Challenger in Jersey in March.
