Summary
HAVING played and enjoyed snooker for almost 60 years, I would be truly sorry to see it disappear from our television screens, but I think that the blame for its seeming loss of popularity lies with the players themselves.
How can we feel pleasure or sadness in the performances of the present players when they remain stony-faced, whether winning or losing? We enjoyed Cliff Thorburn's 147 because he was obviously so thrilled. We suffered with Alex 'Hurricane' Higgins as he sat frustrated on the edge of his seat, living every one of his opponents' shots. We laughed with Ray Reardon, as he himself did, when he missed a shot.
