REGARDING the decline in the sparrow population (Mail), in the picture of sparrows feeding, I noted that all the birds shown had dark brown backs, black cheek flashes and black bibs -- which means they're all males. Could it be that something is affecting the sex ratio of young sparrows being hatched?

Also, all the males had very small bibs, which points to them being low-ranking birds as dominance and attraction to hens is governed by bib size (the bigger the better).
