MUCH as we would all love to see Owen Hargreaves at Manchester United, and his mum's side of the family pootle over from Rhyl while his dad's clan motor down from Bolton to see him become the new Roy Keane, it's more important to respect Bayern Munich's rousing declaration this week: 'We are not a bank.' Eh? What do they mean, these beastly Bavarians, banging on about banks? Why can't they let our Owen go so English spectators can continue their spectacular critical conversion. You know the one.

Hargreaves exemplified everything that was wrong with English football one minute and was an unstoppable midfield dynamo and warrior the next. Messed about and misused by Sven Goran Eriksson, he has all the attributes of an Old Trafford legend.
