SOMETIMES conservation can be too effective. When you're dealing with African elephants, with only a limited amount of space and food, any overpopulation can be catastrophic.

In the old days, Africa's elephants had the freedom of the continent and could roam hundreds of miles in search of food. Now, they are cramped into tiny slivers of wilderness protected from the burgeoning human population.
