A DRUG used by 400,000 Britons was pulled off the market yesterday amid fears that it raises the risk of heart attack and stroke.

Researchers found that patients taking the painkiller Vioxx for 18 months had double the risk of cardiovascular problems compared with those taking a 'dummy' pill.
