LAST winter, our animal sanctuary was asked to take in a Kune Kune pig -- the breed from New Zealand people started keeping in Britain in the Nineties. They were sold as the smallest pig in the world and marketed as delightful pets, but many ended up in unsuitable homes with owners who realised their little pig was growing bigger by the day.

I'm glad to read that Jane Croft has a strict vetting procedure with prospective buyers. These pigs shouldn't be fed ordinary pig nuts as their high calorie content will quickly make them obese. Our Miss Piggy now weighs more than 16st and, adorable though she is, she could unwittingly knock a person flat. So, before you buy a pet pig, caveat emptor, unless you have suitable acreage.
