Summary

THIS is a superb deadnettle for a shady spot. One of the prettiest and most good-natured woodlanders, lamium orvala is a larger, showier relative of our native deadnettles. It flowers from April to June with big, hooded, soft-maroon flowers among sumptuous, toothed foliage. Grow it in humus-rich soil, and in shade or semi- shade, where it is protected from strong winds.

INSPIRATION 'Go down to Kew in lilac-time (it isn't far from London!) 'And you shall wander hand in hand with love in summer's wonderland.'
