Summary
LEEDS Rhinos allowed a local lad called Jason Robinson to slip through the net because they thought he was too small to survive at the top level. Robinson went to Wigan and the rest, as they say, is history. Leeds were not about to make the same mistake with Rob Burrow. Nine years after Burrow, then 16, was given his senior debut for Leeds against Warrington, the 5ft 5in scrum half they have dubbed the Pocket Rocket is ready to launch himself against Robinsons old club Wigan at Headingley tonight. The prize is a place in next Saturdays Super League Grand Final against holders St Helens, who narrowly defeated Leeds in an epic semi-final at Knowsley Road a week ago. Leeds player of the year Burrow, who feels he owes his progress to Test standard to Rhinos coach Tony Smith, said: Tonys improved all aspects of my game and given me an opportunity to start games and also to play for Great Britain. Hes the best coach Ive ever had. He is leaving Leeds at the end of the season to take up the Great Britain job on a full-time basis and the perfect send-off would be for us to get to win the Grand Final. Were at home in front of the best fans in Super League (Leeds 2007 average of 17,558 was their best since World War Two) and we owe it to them to take them to Old Trafford.
