POTATOES are going back to their roots. Growers have developed a variety said to taste just like those that Sir Walter Raleigh brought back to England from South America in the 16th century.

The Mayan Gold, as it is known, has been bred directly from a South American potato species called phureja that has not changed for 7,000 years.
