FOOD group Uniq took a huge step to resolving its long standing pension problems by selling its St Hubert spreads business in France and Italy for a better-than-expected Pounds 248m to rival Dairy Crest.

Chief executive Geoff Eaton says it will put Pounds 90m into the pension fund, closing the deficit. The pension scheme has 21,000 members.
