Olympic fiasco looms AT first glance, the shopping list of new policies being presented to the electorate by Jack McConnell at next year's Holyrood election seems promising. He intends to place gifted school pupils in special 'sets', to make school uniforms compulsory and to extend free nursery places to two-year-olds.

In rejecting his previous, doctrinaire policy of 'inclusion', he appears to be executing a major U-turn.
