PS THE GRAND party and fashion show to launch Society magazine, a quarterly aimed at the nation's glamorous elite, will, sadly, be going ahead without its star guest, Stephen Fry.

The oh-so-clever actor - who hosts the most pompous programme on TV, the BBC's panel show QI - is the 'cover girl' for the first issue of the magazine, which is an offshoot of the social bible, Debrett's People Of Today. Fry - who played P.G. Wodehouse's sublime butler Jeeves on TV - originally agreed to attend the bash in Mayfair, and, doubtless, make an ever-so-amusing speech.
