IT is with utter disbelief that I hear the news that RTE is to axe one of its most famous programmes, Questions and Answers. Not only is Q& A, as it is popularly known, a staple of current affairs programming, it is a feature of Irish life, right down to the most local everyday level.

It is the sort of programme that people talk about the next day, in the same way that they would talk about an important football match.
