EMPLOYERS are so confused by the vast range of school-leavers' qualifications that they are forced to gamble on the quality of new staff, teachers claimed yesterday.

The variety of diplomas and certificates - including NVQs, BTECs, ASDANs and DIDAs - makes it difficult for bosses to know what a young job applicant is capable of.
